Meet dan, the antler man
Artist Dan MacPhail has found his niche constructing unique furniture, chandelier lighting, and more by means of antlers and horn. Owner of MacPhail Studio, located in the tiny farming community of Kevil, KY, you will find Dan building and sculpting antlered creations unlike any other. As an artist, it may seem like an unlikely medium for someone of his background. Dan shares, “Almost all the other antler guys have been carpenters or in a trade craft of some sort. I come from a fine art background and honing in on that creativity is where I shine.” Dan’s knowledge of painting and restoration plays into his process. He has an award-worthy eye for aesthetic and symmetry.
Dan’s pieces have been spotlighted alongside respected artists such as Ralph Kylloe, "Rustic Artistry for the Home" and "Cabins and Camps.” An exquisite 6ft Christmas tree is on permanent collection at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, WY. A yellow elk hide lowback moose antler chair is currently displayed at The American Smithsonian located in Washington, D.C. Dan has been features in video spots on the Discovery Channel and fine media such as Kentucky Monthly and Kentucky Life. Dan’s interviews appear in publication, online and paper distributions. His many articles reveal the light heart and humor of Dan, the ‘original’ Antler Man.

Howdy, I'm Dan MacPhail. Owner of MacPhail Studio. With a collegiate fine arts background, I’ve dedicated my life’s work to building heirloom quality antler furniture and accessories. My 30 years’ experience sculpting with natural components, even still, each piece if a new and exciting creation. I utilize brokered antlers from south to west, primarily harvested dropped tines with pedicle with some exceptions. I have commissioned my work within miles of my shop to western mountain ranches even overseas to royalty! My ‘claim to fame,’ if you will, is I am the sole innovator of the antler Christmas tree. Our trees are designed to assemble, transport, and fit through doorways, even those up to 15’. Trending now are my any-holiday-trees (primarily 2’-4’/tabletop) which are being displayed year round. My clients have shared with me St. Patrick decorated trees, Valentines, Independence Day, autumn, and the list goes on. These display are a fun way to keep our antlered trees festive year round! I am an extremely fortunate artist, working with a medium I love. Establishing and cultivating relationship with my clients is what I most cherish. BIO
Sondra’s multi-faceted career began in 1999 on Music Row in Nashville, TN, pursuing her childhood dream as a country music singer/songwriter. She is a former professional bass fisherman, touring six seasons on the FLW Tour (MLF BIG5) throughout her 10 years in the fishing industry. As a USO entertainer, Sondra visited our troops during active war theatre during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She is a Kentucky licensed real estate agent/REALTOR®, dedicated to service and her community since 2013.
